iPod hearing loss - it is worse than most people think

We thought that musicians and hearing loss were linked among baby boomers, this generation will likely be worse due the MP3 players such as iPod hearing loss.  MP3 players direct loud music into the ear canal.  Conventional CD player and Walkmans are dangerous but using MP3 players, such as an iPod, hearing loss will be inevitable.

iPod hearing loss potential is greater than other music listen devices because they can hold thousands of songs and the battery life is extended.  This means the listener can use it for hours on end without having to take a break and change the CD or tape.  This continue barrage of loud noise directed into the ear will do damage over time.

iPod hearing loss can even happen by keeping the volume at a reasonable level.  Continuous listening can do damage to the hair cells in the inner ear.  This damage will create hearing loss over time.  The only way for parents to protect their children is to limit the amount of time an MP3 player is in use.  For more information, speak with your audiologist.
