A bone anchored hearing aid is not for everyone.  In fact, they have been specially designed for people who suffer from chronic ear infections, congenital external auditory canal artresia or who are deaf in one ear.  Bone anchored hearing aids are also known as BAHA hearing aids for short because there is a part of the aid that is anchored directly to the skull bone.

Most hearing aids are made up of one part.  Bone anchored hearing aids are actually made up of 3 very separate parts which include an external abutment, titanium implant and a sound processor.  The titanium implant is the only piece surgically done.  Over time, the implant will integrate with the bone of the skull naturally.  The surgery is quite quick and relatively easy.
